Nestled amongst the bushland in Mackenzie, Mackenzie State Special School provides a supportive, engaging and future-focused learning environment for students with disability from Prep to Year 12.

At Mackenzie, we focus on student growth, achievement and engagement by providing individualised learning that is responsive to each student’s strengths, needs, communication, interests and future pathways. Our approach recognises that success looks different for every learner, and we work in partnership with families to support students to build the skills, confidence and independence they need to thrive.

Our curriculum is purposeful, personalised and connected to real-world learning. Students access the Australian Curriculum through highly differentiated teaching, alongside targeted programs that support communication, including Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), functional literacy and numeracy, social capability, wellbeing, independence, and community participation. Across the school, we honour student voice by creating meaningful opportunities for students to communicate, make choices, contribute and experience success.

In the senior years, students engage in practical and future-focused learning designed to prepare them for life beyond school through our industries engagement and community engagement pathways. Senior programs may include work experience, enterprise learning, community access, hospitality, horticulture, media, digital skills, sport, customer service, travel training, volunteering and links with post-school providers. These opportunities support students to strengthen independence, employability, communication and confidence as they explore their future pathways.

At Mackenzie State Special School, we are proud to create a culture of engagement, belonging and achievement through flexible learning for every student.
